You may have noticed that the Mouse cursor does not lock to the game window in Windows 11/10 at times. There are various instances of this issue. Sometimes, the mouse fails to lock in specific games such as Minecraft, whereas on other occasions, this happens for all the games in the library. This just makes the gaming experience a little jarring and needs a quick remedy. In this post, we will see how to resolve the issue.
Fix Mouse Cursor not locking to Game in Windows 11/10
If the mouse cursor is not locking to the game on your PC, you need to first update the Game and the operating system and then follow these suggestions:
- Restart the game or the launcher
- Reset Game Bar
- Enable LUA
- Update or reinstall Mouse and Touchpad driver
- Disable Mouse Precision
Let us talk about them in detail.
1] Restart the game or the launcher
First, we will use the most basic solution: restarting the game or the launcher you are using. This will remove any glitch that could have caused this issue. So, go ahead and restart them, and finally, check if the issue is resolved.
2] Reset Game Bar
If you use Xbox Game Bar when playing the game, there is a slight possibility that the program is either corrupted or misconfigured. In that case, our best bet is to reset or repair the Game Bar. To do so, you can follow the solutions mentioned below.
- Open Settings by Win + I.
- Now, go to System > System Components.
- Navigate to Game Bar, click on the three dots, and select Advanced Options.
- Now, click on Repair.
- In case, repairing is to no avail, click on Reset.
Once done, check if the issue is resolved.
3] Enable LUA
Even though LUA (Limit User Account) controls the User Access Control (UAC) feature, due to a bug it can affect the mouse cursor as well. We have noticed that disabling it can make the cursor move unprecedentedly. To resolve the issue, we need to make sure that LUA is enabled in the registry, if not, we need to make some changes. Before we go ahead and make these changes, it’s recommended that we back up the registry, which can be used to restore it if required. Once done, follow the steps mentioned below.
- Open the Registry Editor by searching it out of the Start Menu.
- Then, go to
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
. - Look for EnableLUA, double-click on it, and set the Value data to 1.
Once done, reboot the computer and check if the issue is resolved. If it was already 1, change it to 0, reboot the system, switch it to 1, again restart the machine, and finally, check if the issue is resolved.
4] Update or reinstall Mouse and Touchpad driver
If this issue is not exclusive to any particular game but it has been happening to all the titles you are trying to play, there can be something wrong with the mouse driver that you have installed on your system.
To resolve the issue, download the latest version of the touchpad or mouse driver.
Now uninstall the current instance of the driver and then install the latest one that you downloaded.
You should also update Graphics Drivers and see if that helps.
5] Disable Mouse Precision
The Mouse Precision is a setting that adjusts the speed of the cursor based on how quickly you move the mouse. When pointer precision is enabled, the cursor moves faster when you move the mouse quickly and slower when you move it slowly. It generally improves the user experience, but due to a bug, it’s been causing the issue in question. To resolve it, we recommend you disable the feature. In order to do so, follow the steps mentioned below.
- Open Settings.
- Go to Bluetooth & devices > Mouse.
- Now, click on Additional mouse settings.
- Click on Pointer Options and then disable Enhance pointer precision.
- Finally, click on Apply > Ok.
Once done, re-open the game and see if the issue is resolved.
