If your device has no Internet after a fresh Windows installation, then you are not alone. A lot of users are facing this common issue and it can occur due to missing network drivers, incorrect settings, or other connectivity problems. This article will discuss the steps to diagnose and resolve the issue.
How do I fix Windows connected to No Internet?
If the Windows devices are connected to Wi-Fi but show No Internet, restart the computer and router. If the issue continues, check whether other devices can connect to the Internet. However, if the issue occurs after a fresh installation, check out the solutions mentioned in the next section.
Fix No Internet after fresh Windows Install
If there is No Internet after a fresh Windows installation, follow the solutions mentioned below.
- Download the Network driver
- Re-enable Network Adapter
- Update or reinstall the Network Adapter
- Reset the TCP/IP Stack and clear the DNS cache
- Use Network Troubleshooter
- Reset your Network.
Let us get started with the troubleshooting guide.
1] Download the Network driver
There is a possibility that no network driver was installed on your computer during the operating system installation. In that case, you must manually install the driver on your computer. Since there is no Internet on your computer, there is no way you can download it locally on the device. Therefore, we recommend you download the driver from the manufacturer’s website to your friend’s machine, copy the file to a USB stick, and then install it on your computer. Hopefully, your issue will be resolved after you install the network driver.
2] Re-enable Network Adapter
If the issue is due to temporary glitches, disabling and re-enabling the network adapter can resolve it. This process forces the Operating system to reinitialize the adapter and reset any misconfiguration. Follow the steps mentioned below to do the same.
- Click Win + I to open Settings.
- Then, navigate to Network & internet and click on Advanced network settings.
- Under Network adapters, click on Disable associated with your WiFi; wait for a minute, and then click on Enable.
Alternatively, users can re-enable the Network Adapter from Device Manager by clicking Win + X and then selecting Device Manager. Expand the Network Adapters section, right-click on the adapter, and select Disable device > Right-click> Enabled device.
Once done, ensure the issue is resolved, and if not, see the next solution.
3] Reinstall the Network Adapter
You may not be able to access the Internet due to corrupted drivers. To remove this corruption, we can reinstall the network driver. To do so, follow the steps mentioned below.
- Open WinX Menu, select Device Manager, and expand Network Adapter.
- Expand the Network Adapters section, and right-click on the network adapter.
- Select Uninstall device, and then click on Uninstall to confirm it.
Once it is uninstalled, restart the PC to download the correct driver automatically. You can then go to the first solution and install the latest version of the driver. Once that is done, check if the issue is resolved.
4] Reset the TCP/IP stack and clear the DNS cache
If there are potential misconfiguration or residual issues in the network settings, then resetting the TCP/IP stack is recommended. Here’s how to reset Internet Protocol to its default state using the NetShell or netsh utility.
To do so, open an elevated command prompt, type the following, and hit Enter:
netsh int ip reset
This will generate a log file:
netsh int ip reset resettcpip.txt
If you are using IPv4, type the following and hit Enter:
netsh int ipv4 reset
If you use IPv6, type the following and hit Enter:
netsh int ipv6 reset
This command will reset TCP/IP and the actions taken will be recorded in the log file, created in the current directory, named resettcpip.txt.
Running the following command is equivalent to removing and reinstalling TCP/IP. To flush the DNS cache, run the following command:
ipconfig /flushdns
You will see – Windows IP Configuration. Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache. Once done, exit CMD, reboot the PC, and check if the issue persists.
5] Use Network Troubleshooter
You can use the Network Troubleshooter to detect what’s wrong with your computer and to resolve it. In the latest iteration of Windows, you get the Get Help app that can be used to resolve the issue. Open the app, search for “Network troubleshooting”, and then select the appropriate options to run the troubleshooter.
