A static IP address allows you to maintain a stable and consistent Internet connection. However, we have not noticed that after configuring a static IP address, Windows does not connect to the Internet. This post will discuss what to do when there is no Internet after setting Static IP.
Fix No Internet after setting Static IP on Windows 11/10
If there is no Internet after setting Static IP Address, reboot your computer and see if you can connect to the network. If that does not help, follow the solutions mentioned below.
- Power cycle your router
- Use IP in DHCP Pool
- Register DNS
- Set the DNS along with the IP
- Reset Network Protocol
- Reset your Network Settings
- Run Network Troubleshooter via Get Help app
Let us talk about them in detail.
1] Power cycle your router
First, restart your network device. This will allow it to register the IP change from dynamic to static. To do so, unplug all the cables, wait for a minute, and then plug them back in. Once done, check if the issue is resolved.
2] Use IP in DHCP Pool
A DHCP pool is a set of IP addresses that a DHCP server can give to devices on a network. It’s like a group of available IP addresses for devices such as computers, smartphones, and printers when they connect to the network. Whenever we try to set a static IP address, we should ensure the IP is within the DHCP Pool. In case, you use one that trespasses the pool, your device will fail to connect to the Internet.
3] Register DNS
Even though your IP address and DNS are two separate entities, we recommend that you register DNS after setting up a static IP. To do so, open the Command Prompt as an administrator and then run the following command.
ipconfig /registerdns
Finally, connect to the network and see if that helps.
4] Set the DNS along with the IP
After setting up a static IP, you should also configure DNS. The easiest way out would be to set up Google Public DNS. To do so, we recommend you follow the steps mentioned below.
- Open Control Panel.
- Click on Network and Sharing Center.
- Now, click on the hyperlink next to Connections.
- Then, click on Properties.
- Look for Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), select it, and click on Properties.
- Select Use the following DNS server addresses and then set the following DNS.
Preferred DNS server: 8.8.8.8
Alternate DNS Server: 8.8.4.4 - Click on Ok.
Finally, check if the issue is resolved.
If your organization has a particular DNS Server, use it instead of the Google Public DNS.
5] Reset Network Protocols
Network protocols are like rules that help different devices communicate with each other over a network. Imagine them as a common language that all devices understand, allowing them to share information smoothly. If you can’t connect to the network after configuring DNS and setting up static IP, we will reset these protocols and see if that helps. To do so, open the Command Prompt as an administrator and then run the following commands.
ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew ipconfig /flushdns ipconfig /registerdns netsh winsock reset
You can also create a batch file to release TCP/IP, flush DNS, reset Winsock, and reset Proxy. Hopefully, this will do the job for you.
6] Reset your Network Settings
There is a possibility that you made some misconfigurations when configuring the DNS settings of the client system. However, since this is a very common phenomenon, Windows has an option to allow resetting the Network Settings. To do so, follow the steps mentioned below.
- Open Settings.
- Go to Network & Internet > Advanced Network Settings.
- Scroll down and click on Network reset.
- Finally, click on Reset now.
Now, check if the issue persists. If you can connect to the Internet, check if the static IP is still configured; if not, go ahead and configure it.

7] Run Network Troubleshooter via Get Help app
To resolve any network issues you are facing, you can run the network troubleshooter. It will scan what’s wrong with your system and then resolve it. To do so, we need to run the Get Help Network and Internet Troubleshooter. Follow the steps mentioned below to do the same.
- Open the Get Help app.
- Now, type “Network troubleshooting” and hit Enter.
- Click on Launch the network troubleshooter and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.
Hopefully, this will do the job for you.

How do I fix Windows 11 connected but no internet?
If Windows 11 is connected to the network but there is no Internet, power cycle your router and see if that helps. You can also run the Get Help Network and Internet troubleshooter as mentioned earlier. If that is to no avail, check our guide to know what to do when the WiFi is connected, but there is no internet access.
Can I get internet with a static IP address?
A computer connected to the Internet can have either a static IP address, which remains the same over time, or a dynamic IP address, which can change over time. However, ensuring the IP address you enter is within the DHCP pool is important.
