Fix Outlook stuck on getting Outlook ready
If the new Outlook app is stuck on the “Getting Outlook ready” screen, try terminating its process from the Task Manager and then reopen it. If you still notice the issue, execute the solutions mentioned below.
- Run Outlook with admin rights
- Switch to classic Outlook
- Remove Outlook addons or apps
- Repair Outlook app
Before you proceed, restart the computer and router and see if that helps.
1] Run Outlook with admin rights
Run Outlook (new) with admin rights and see. Go to the Search bar and type Outlook. Right-click on it and select the Run as administrator option. Click Yes when the UAC prompt appears, and then see if the issue is resolved.
2] Switch to classic Outlook
If you face this issue when opening Outlook (new), we recommend you switch to the older version. To do so, turn off the toggle that says Try the new Outlook or New Outlook. This might take some time, so reset it. If you don’t see the option, you can search Outlook from the Start Menu and then open Outlook or Outlook (classic).
You may use Outlook (classic) in this case.
3] Remove or Disable Outlook addons or apps
Next, we recommend you disable or remove the Outlook Add-Ons to see if they are causing the issue. Since we cannot open Outlook, boot Windows in Safe mode and then try to open Outlook and remove the add-ons.
Open Outlook (new). On the left bar, where icons are displayed vertically, click on the bottom-most More apps button.
Here, you can select the apps and Remove them.
You have to continue doing this until you stumble upon the culprit. Once you know which Add-on is causing the issue, don’t add it until there is an updated version.

4] Repair Outlook
Underlying issues such as corrupted files or damaged Outlook profiles can prevent the app from launching properly. To address these underlying causes, run a Repair scan on Outlook.
- Click Win + I to open Settings, and click on the Installed Apps tab.
- Scroll down to search for Outlook (new), click on the three dots, and then select the Advanced option.
- Select the Repair or Reset button.
Wait for the process to check and fix errors in Outlook’s installation file and restore missing or corrupted components. Once it has finished, launch the app and see.
If nothing helps, uninstall the new Outlook app and download and install a fresh copy from the Microsoft Store.
