Can you see your User account or Profile picture in your Windows 11/10 Settings? If not, this post has some quick fixes for you. Generally, it’s one’s default User account picture saved as your Profile picture in your Microsoft account which gets displayed in all its services including Outlook, MS Word, Windows Settings, etc.
Fix Profile picture not showing up in Windows Settings
Below are a few fixes you can try to remediate this error on your Windows 11 or Windows 10 computer-
- Reboot your PC
- Check the latest update
- Delete the pictures in your Account
- Check your Microsoft Account
- Sync your settings
- Check your system using the tools like SFC, DISM, and ChkDsk
- Create your picture
1] Reboot Your PC
This is generally the first solution we try for every small issue in our PC. Rebooting the PC helps in fixing the momentary bugs by deleting the temporary files and processes r, flushing the RAM, and ending the unwanted background apps running on your PC. This normally fixes the momentary bugs if any. Do reboot your PC and see if you can now see your profile picture in the Windows Settings.
2] Check the latest update
As reported by the users in the Microsoft forum, some Windows Updates bring these errors. Check if you have recently updated your PC and if it was a mandatory update, keep it but if it was an Optional update, try uninstalling it and see if that works. If it was a mandatory Windows Update and you have to keep it, in that case, it is suggested to add your profile picture to your Microsoft account again.
3] Delete the old pictures in your account
Press Win+R to open the Run Command and type,
C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\AccountPictures
Delete all your pictures in this account and create a new one in your Windows Settings.
If you can’t see any pictures in this folder, move on to the next fix.
4] Check your Microsoft account
As mentioned above, it’s your profile picture in the Microsoft account that displays in all of its services. Check if you have signed in to your correct Microsoft account. Log out and log in again and see if that works. Also, see if you have any profile picture set in your Microsoft account or not.
5] Sync your settings
As I’ve already mentioned that it’s your Microsoft account profile picture that is displayed all across its services and products but if you can’t see the profile photo in your Windows Settings, there could be a sync problem. Check if you have enabled the sync or not. To check this-
- Type Sync Your Settings in the search box and open it.
- Check if Sync settings is ON or not.
- Even if it is ON, turn it OFF and then ON again.
See if that helps.
6] Check your system using the tools like SFC, DISM, and ChkDsk
Running these three built-in tools may help:
- Run System File Checker: Run
sfc /scannow
in a Command Prompt - Run DISM: Run
dism /online /cleanup-image /CheckHealth
in a Command Prompt - Run ChkDsk: Run
chkdsk /f /r /b
in a Command Prompt.
Wait for the scans to complete and see if it has helped.
7] Create your picture again
If none of the above-described fixes work for you, you can add a new profile image to your Microsoft account and it will start displaying on every service and Settings. You can also separately create your profile picture for your Windows Settings.
To create a profile picture in Windows Settings-
- Go to Settings > Accounts
- Go to the ‘Your Info’ section and scroll down to click on ‘Create Your Picture’
- ‘Browse’ and select your desired profile picture.
All these fixes should ideally work for you but if you still didn’t get your profile picture in Settings, it is recommended to contact Microsoft Windows technical support to get this issue fixed.
