Fix Remote Desktop mouse not working

- Update Windows and Mouse driver.
- Change Windows theme on remote desktop.
- Restart Remote Desktop Services.
- Minimize all windows.
- Enable Plug and Play (PnP) devices.
Note: Since the mouse is not working on your remote desktop, you can use your keyboard to navigate through settings and select different options.
1] Update Windows and mouse driver
The first thing you can do to fix this issue is to download and install all pending Windows updates. With new updates, such bugs and issues are fixed. So, open the Settings app using Win+I, move to the Windows Update tab, and select the Check for updates button. Once updates are installed, see if the problem is fixed.
Another thing you need to ensure is that you are using the latest version of your mouse driver. To update the mouse driver, press Win+R to open Run and enter devmgmt.msc in it to open Device Manager. After that, expand the Mice and other pointing devices category, go to your mouse device, and press Enter to open its properties window. Next, go to the Driver tab, highlight the Update Driver button, and press Enter to open the driver update wizard.

2] Change Windows theme on remote desktop
Some affected users have reported that changing the scheme in mouse properties on the remote desktop helped them fix the issue. So, you can try doing the same and see if it works.
Here’s how:
- First, open Run using Win+R and enter “control /name Microsoft.Mouse” in the Open box to quickly open the Mouse Properties window.
- In the opened window, navigate to the Pointers tab and select the drop-down menu button under the Scheme option.
- From the opened options, highlight the Windows Black (system scheme) option and press Enter to select it.
- Once done, click on the OK button to save changes.
Check if the mouse cursor appears again on your remote desktop now.

3] Restart Remote Desktop Services
The next thing you can do is restart the Remote Desktop services on your remote desktop and see if it helps. Here’s how:
- First, evoke the Run command box and enter services.msc in it to open the Services app.
- Now, locate and select the Remote Desktop Service.
- Next, highlight the Restart option and press Enter to click on it.
- Repeat the above steps for the Remote Desktop Configuration service.
- Once the services are restarted, check if the issue is resolved.
4] Minimize all windows
Some online users are sharing this fix and are facing the same issue. You need to minimize all opened windows using the Windows+D hotkey and then go to your Desktop. You can now press right-click on the empty area a couple of times and check if the right-click context menu shows up. If yes, your mouse has started working again.

5] Enable Plug and Play (PnP) devices
Another hotfix that some users have shared is enabling the Plug and Play (PnP) devices. You can also do the same and see if it works. Here’s how to do that:
- First, open the Remote Desktop Connection app on your local PC and go to its Local Resources tab.
- Now, under the Local devices and resources section, click on the More option.
- Next, tick the Other supported Plug and Play (PnP) devices checkbox.
- After that, press the OK button to save changes.
