Corsair K100 RGB Firmware Update Failed [Fix]

Many users are facing keyboard freezing, ghost typing, sudden volume changes, and such sort of issues rapidly in Corsair keyboards. If you are not able to update, then to resolve the Corsair K100 RGB Firmware update failed issue, execute the solutions mentioned below:

1. Close all the interfering apps from the background
2. Reset the keyboard
3. Switch the Keyboard plug to Motherboard’s USB slot
4. Install the update manually
5. Repair the iCUE app
6. Reinstall the iCUE app

1] Close all the interfering apps from the background

The first and foremost thing to check before updating the keyboard is to close all the RGB and monitor applications running in the background. They can interfere with the pp, and prevent it from downloading and updating it. So do the same, and check whether it is now updating or in the same condition.

2] Reset the keyboard

Remove the keyboard plug and let it be at rest for at least 2-3 minutes. Now plug the keyboard black while pressing the Esc key, and release it after 5 seconds. Your keyboard will flash, implementing that the procedure was successful. Now, see if you can update the firmware or not.

3] Switch the keyboard plug to the Motherboards USB slot

Sometimes, in a hurry, we plug the keyboard in the wrong slots, so before going further in this troubleshooting guide, make sure that the keyboard is plugged into the front or rear motherboard I/O USB slots. Once you have done that, open the iCUE software v4 or v5, and then try to update it now. Hopefully, the keyboard will be updated; if not, see the next solutions.

4] Install the update manually

There are various instances where software cannot detect updates, and in turn, fail to install and update the software to its latest version. In such instances, we can manually install and update the Firmware.

Before that, you need to download the following zip files from their respective URLs.

• Firmware 1: help.corsair.com
• Firmware 2: help.corsair.com
• Firmware 3: help.corsair.com

To manually update the keyboard, execute the steps mentioned below:

1. Download the zip files, cut off the Internet, and now plug the K100 RGB through a wired USB.
2. Launch iCUE, navigate to its settings, and switch the polling rate to 1000hz.
3. Select the Check for updates option present beside the firmware name, and the Failde status will appear on the screen.
4. Select the three vertical dots menu > Browse for Firmware, and then navigate to the zip files download folder.
5. Now, double-click on Firmware 1.zip and click the Update Now button. Once done, close it, and again check Check for Updates.
6. You will again see the Update Failed status, so click on the three-dots menu> Browse for firmware > click open Firmware 2.zip > Update Now. Once done, close this and repeat the same process except select Firmware 3.zip, and update it.

And your keyboard will be manually updated. No update failed status on the screen. However, if it comes back after some time, follow the solutions mentioned below.

5] Repair the iCUE app

Any issues regarding the software can also stop its updating process, and the same can be said about Corsair software. Therefore, it’s better to rule out this mishap if the update failed.

So, go to the Search bar, search, and open Device Manager. Select Human Interface devices, and then Corsair composite virtual input device. Now, right-click on it and click the Uninstall device option, and follow the on-screen instructions to uninstall it. After this, visit the official iCUE site that is corsair.com, and go to the Download iCUE option available in the top-right corner.

Once downloaded, open it and finally click the Repair the application option. After that follow the on-screen instructions, restart the PC, and this way, you won’t face any related issues.

6] Reinstall the iCUE app

If repairing the software can not help you in resolving the update failed status, then download a fresh installation of the app. To do so, follow the steps prescribed mentioned below.

1. Go to the Start menu and search Control Panel.
2. Now, click the Programs and Features section, and search Corsair iCUES Software.
3. Delete it.
4. Click Win + R to open the run dialogue, type %Appdata%, and hit the Enter button.
5. Select and delete the Corsair file here, reopen the Run dialogue box, and now type %localappdata%, and do the same.
6. For iCUE 3, go to C:\Program Files x86\, and for iCUE 4, C:\Program Files\, and again, delete the Corsair files.
7.  Once more open the Run box, type Regedit, navigate to the following location, and find and delete the Corsair folder.

   HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\

8. After this, go to the location mentioned below and delete the Corsair folder.

   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\

9. Finally, reboot the PC, and then once it restarts, go to the iCUE download page and install it.
