When trying to scan a document using our scanner, we get Scanner Error 0x00000015. Due to this, our scanner is unable to process the required document and we get the error in question. If you get Scanner Error 0x00000015 and the operation cannot be completed because the device is not ready, on your Windows computer, follow the solutions mentioned below to resolve the issue.
- Restart your computer and power cycle your scanner
- Check the status of the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) Driver
- Install or update your scanner drivers
- Reinstall the scanner driver
- Troubleshoot in Clean Boot

1] Restart your computer and power cycle your scanner
First of all, we need to restart our computer to get rid of any glitch that could have caused this issue. In case, rebooting the system is to no avail, go ahead and power cycle your scanner. So, you need to turn off your scanner, unplug all the cables, wait for a minute, plug the cables back, and then start the device. Finally, check if the issue persists.
2] Check the status of the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) Driver
Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) allows communication between your scanner and computer. When the service is disabled or has some glitches, you might encounter issues such as the one in question. In this solution, we need to check its status and ensure it’s running fine. For the follow the steps mentioned below.
- Open Services app.
- Now, go to the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service.
- Right-click on it and click on Properties.
- If it’s stopped, click on the Start button, if it’s already running, click on Stop and then select Start.
- Also, make sure to change the Startup type to Automatic.
- Finally, click on Apply > Ok.

3] Install or update your scanner drivers
As you may already know, drivers are the piece of software responsible for interacting with your system’s hardware. If they are missing or are outdated, your computer will not be able to detect their presence and will stop responding. To resolve the issue, we need to install the latest version of your driver. Follow the methods mentioned below to do the same.
- Install the latest version of the driver from the manufacturer’s website.
- Download a free driver update software to keep your device updated.
- Update your scanner driver using the Device Manager utility.
After installing the latest version of the driver, you can reboot your computer and check if the issue is resolved.
4] Reinstall the scanner driver
In case updating is to no avail, we are required to remove the current installation of the scanner driver and then install a fresh copy of the same. So, if the driver is corrupted and the scanner is not allowed to scan the document, removing it will do the trick. To do the same, you need to follow the steps mentioned below.
- Hit Win + X and click on Device Manager.
- Now, look for your scanner’s driver, it should be under Print Queues, Imaging devices, or Other devices.
- Once found, right-click on the driver and select Uninstall device.
- Click on Uninstall again to confirm your action.
- To install it back, we need to click on the Scan for hardware change button as depicted in the attached screenshot.
Finally, reboot your computer and check if the correct driver is installed or not. If you notice some discrepancy in the driver’s version, update it to the latest one using the aforementioned methods.
5] Troubleshoot in Clean Boot
We have noticed that the Tunes Up Utilities Turbo feature tends to block scanner access. To confirm if this is true in your case, perform Clean Boot and then check if the scanner is working. If it’s working, enable processes manually to find out what’s causing the issue, and then uninstall or disable it permanently.
