For a long time, Gmail users have been demanding the addition of a capability that would easily let them send emails as attachments in Gmail. Google also acknowledges that attaching emails makes more sense than forwarding separate emails. As such, it now allows users to send emails as attachments in Gmail. Let’s see how it is done!
How to send emails as attachments in Gmail
You can now attach and send emails as attachments in Gmail without having to forward or download them first. However, there are certain things you need to keep in mind. For example, although you can attach as many emails as you’d like, you’ll have to use Google Drive to attach files if the file size exceeds the 25 MB limit.
When you click on an attached email, it will open in a new window. A security banner will appear at the top of an attached email indicating its status (sent or received). You can send emails as attachments in Gmail via two methods,
- Forward an email as an attachment
- Reply with an attached email
Let’s cover the methods in a bit more detail.
1] Forward an email as an attachment
On your computer, go to Gmail.
Select the emails that you want.
Click ‘More’ and then ‘Forward as attachment’.
In the ‘To’ field, add recipients. You can also add recipients in the ‘Cc’ and ‘Bcc’ fields.
Next, type the subject and write your message.
When done, hit the ‘Send’ button visible at the bottom.
To forward an email as an attachment, you can also right-click on a message or drag and drop the file into the body of your message. This will create a new thread with the emails attached and ready to be sent.
2] Reply with an attached email
On your computer, go to Gmail.
Open the desired email and choose the ‘Reply’ option.
Now, in the top right corner of the email body, click the ‘Pop out’ icon.
Now, from your inbox, select the email you want to attach and drag it into your message.
At the bottom, click Send.
That’s it!
Earlier, if you want to share an email you’ve received with someone else, the easiest way to do so is to forward the email. However, that’s not always suitable, especially when the process involves multiple email threads to send.
Where is Attachment option in Gmail?
The attachment option is at the bottom of the compose window in Gmail. Look for the paperclip icon and click on it to attach files to your email.
Why is my Gmail not sending emails with attachments?
Your Gmail might not send emails with attachments due to file size and format issues. Ensure the attachment is within the 25MB limit for emails and 50MB for attachments. Also, confirm the file format is supported by Gmail, such as .pdf or .docx.
