We Steam users face a very peculiar issue where Steam Library runs away when we hover the mouse cursor over it. Because of this, the user cannot click on the installed games and play. In this post, we will talk about the issue and see what you can do if Steam Library is running away from the mouse cursor.
Why does Steam keep hiding my library?
There is a bug in Steam’s GPU-accelerated web rendering option, which causes the Library to run away from the mouse cursor. Since it is a bug, our best option to resolve this issue is to update it. If there is no available update or updating is to no avail, follow the solutions mentioned hereinafter.
Fix Steam Library running away from mouse cursor
If Steam Library is running away from the mouse cursor, follow the solutions mentioned below to resolve the issue.
- Restart the Steam Client app
- Disable GPU-accelerated web rendering
- Clear Web Browser Data and Download Cache
- Remove the Steam app cache
- Reinstall Steam
Let us talk about them in detail.
1] Restart the Steam Client app
Those of you thinking that this unprecedented movement of the Library is due to it being possessed, are going to feel a little cathartic once you get to know that there is a bug in Steam’s code that can be triggered due to a glitch. We, mere mortals, won’t be able to get rid of the bug, but we resolve the glitch that triggered it. To do the same, open Task Manager, right-click on Steam, and select End Task. Now, open Steam and check if the issue is resolved.
2] Disable GPU-accelerated web rendering
Next up, we need to disable GPU-accelerated web rendering. GPU acceleration can enhance your PC’s performance by freeing up resources and rendering web views faster in the Steam client. However, since there is a bug, GPU-accelerated web rendering is behaving funny, hence, we need to disable it to resolve this issue. Follow the steps mentioned below to do the same.
- Launch the Steam client application on your computer.
- Then click on the Steam option from the top-left corner and then select Settings from the list that appears.
- Now, go to the Interface tab and finally disable the toggle for Enable GPU accelerated rendering in web views.
Once done, restart Steam and then check if the issue is resolved. Since the bug is in GPU-accelerated web rendering, disabling it would do the trick for you.
3] Clear Web Browser Data and Download Cache
If your web browser data and/or download cache is corrupted, you will encounter this issue even after disabling GPU-accelerated rendering. These caches have nothing to do with your files. They will just anyway get deleted once the retention time is over, hence, no harm in deleting them now. To do the same, follow the steps mentioned below.
- Open Steam on your system.
- From the top-left right corner of the screen, click Steam > Settings.
- Now, go to the Download tab and then click on Clear Cache associated with Clear Download Cache.
- Then, click on the In-Game tab and click on the Delete button associated with Delete web browser data.
- Finally, restart Steam and check if the issue is resolved.
Hopefully, this will do the trick for you.
4] Remove the Steam app cache
If deleting the download and web cache didn’t do the trick for you, we need to remove the app cache of Steam. The app cache is stored locally and there is no arrangement to clear it from the app itself. So, in order to remove it, you are required to follow the steps mentioned below.
- First of all, close Steam from the Task Manager as mentioned earlier.
- Then click on the address bar, paste %localappdata%, and hit Enter.
- Now, look for the Steam folder, open it, and then delete all the content of the folder.
Finally, restart Steam and check if the issue is resolved.

5] Reinstall Steam
If all else fails, we have to reinstall the Steam client application as a fresh copy of Steam will resolve the issue for you. So, go ahead and uninstall Steam from your computer. Once done, go to store.steampowered.com and download Steam from there. Hopefully, this will do the job for you.
That’s it!

How do I fix my Steam library glitch?
The unusual movement of items in the Steam Library is not a result of a glitch but rather a bug. This means that the only permanent solution is to update the application, which will be done automatically. However, in some cases, the problem may persist even after updating due to corrupted caches and stored data. In such situations, it is recommended to update Steam, which can be triggered automatically by restarting the application. If no update is available or the problem persists, you can try the solutions mentioned earlier.
