Steam won’t let me reset my password
If you can’t change or reset your password on Steam, here are the solutions you can use:
- Initial checklist.
- Close and then reopen Steam.
- Update the Steam desktop client.
- Contact the Steam Support team.
1] Initial checklist
Before you proceed, there are some preliminary checks that you need to perform. One of those is checking your network connection and making sure your internet is working properly while you follow the steps to reset your password.
Besides that, if you are not receiving a recovery email from Steam, check the current server status of Steam. If Steam servers are down at the moment, wait for some time and then try resetting your password.
Steam needs to verify your email address or phone number before letting you reset your password. So, make sure you have access to either your phone number or email address to complete the reset process. Also, make sure you enter the correct email address or phone number.
If you haven’t received the account recovery email in your primary inbox, check all other folders, especially the Spam folder, and see if you can find the recovery email there.
In case you haven’t received any recovery email, you can request to reset your password again after some time. Follow the password reset steps again and then check if Steam sends you a recovery email or not. Some users were able to fix the issue using this method.

2] Close and then reopen Steam
It might be the case that you have lost the connection to Steam and thus, you can’t change your password. Hence, in that case, close Steam completely using Task Manager and then reopen it to check if you can reset your password or not.
3] Update the Steam desktop client
One of the affected users confirmed that updating the Steam app to the latest version helped fix this issue. So, if you are using an older version of Steam, update it right away and then attempt to reset your password.
To update Steam on Windows, open the app and click on the Steam > Check for Steam Client Updates option. If there are updates available, it will ask you to download them. So, click on the Download button. Once downloaded, click on the Apply and restart Steam button and complete the update process. See if the issue is resolved.

Hope this helps!
Why is my Steam account not letting me log in?
If you can’t sign into Steam, the login credentials that you have entered are likely incorrect. Hence, make sure you are using the correct password to your account to sign into Steam. Besides that, it could be a temporary server issue that is causing the problem. A corrupted Steam cache, weak internet connection, firewall interference, software conflicts, and outdated Steam app can be other reasons for the same issue.
