By default, if you type on any program using the Windows Touch keyboard, it capitalizes the first letter automatically. However, this guide is for you if you want to stop the Touch keyboard from capitalizing the first letter of each sentence in Windows 11 and Windows 10. There are two ways to prevent the Touch keyboard from doing so – using Windows Settings and the Registry Editor.
If you type in Microsoft Word, it capitalizes the first letter automatically. However, the same thing doesn’t happen in WordPad, Notepad, and some other programs. If you use a physical keyboard, it is pretty easy to capitalize the first letter of any sentence. However, things are rather time-consuming if you use the Touch keyboard. You need to press the Shift key and type the letter. Alternatively, you need to press the Caps Lock, type the letter, and turn off the Caps Lock.
If you do not want to go through this process, here is how you can allow or disallow the Touch keyboard from capitalizing the first letter.
Allow or disallow the Touch keyboard from capitalizing the first letter in Windows 11
To stop the Touch keyboard from automatically capitalizing the first letter of each sentence in Windows 11/10 using Windows Settings, follow these steps:
- Press Win+I to open Windows Settings.
- Switch to the Time & language tab on the left side.
- Click on the Typing menu on the right side.
- Expand the Touch keyboard section.
- Uncheck the Capitalize the first letter of each sentence option to stop using uppercase.
To learn more about these steps in detail, continue reading.
At first, you need to open the Windows Settings. For that, you can press the Win+I keys together. After that, switch to the Time & language tab on the left-hand side. Here you can find a Typing menu that you need to click on.
Following that, expand the Touch keyboard section. Here you can see the Capitalize the first letter to each sentence checkbox.
Select the checkbox to allow the Touch keyboard to use uppercase or uncheck this option to stop the Touch keyboard from capitalizing the first letter of each sentence.
As mentioned earlier, you can do the same thing with the help of the Registry Editor. Before heading to the Registry method, it is recommended to backup all Registry files to be on the safe side.
