After a service request, you’ll need to set up your Surface device, install updates, restore your files, and reinstall your apps. In our last post, we saw, how to make your Surface ready for service. In this post, we will outline easy steps you can take to quickly have your Windows Surface device up and running in no time, once you get it back from the repair or service center, so as to get back to your most important work.
Set up your Surface device after Repair
You can set up your Surface in just 5 steps, as follows in this particular order:

To check for updates, do the following:
Navigate to Settings > Update and security > Windows Update. Then click Check for updates.

Also update your Microsoft Store app. To do so, do the following:
- Select the Start button, and then select Microsoft Store.
- Select the Profile or More (… ellipsis) menu, and then select Downloads and updates.
- Choose the Microsoft Store update and select Download now.
3) Pair your Bluetooth accessories
After a replacement service, you’ll need to pair your Bluetooth accessories with your Surface. See this post if you’re having issues pairing your Bluetooth accessory/device.
4) Restore your files
Here, you’ll need to add the files that you previously backed up.

If you backed up your files to OneDrive, you can access them whenever you need them.
You can also restore files with File History or File Explorer. Using File Explorer, you can copy files manually to your Documents, Videos, Pictures, and Music libraries from another storage location.
