Windows 11/10 comes with many changes and different settings. The email notifications for the Mail app was turned off by default for some strange reason on my installation. You might see a notification in the Notification & Action Center, but you might not get an alert for every new email. You can however customize and set the email notifications and other alerts, as per your preferences and get an alert for every email you receive in your inbox. You can also set the mail notifications and action alerts for any particular email account or for your multiple accounts.
In this post we will learn about the customization settings of your email notifications in Windows 11/10 Mail app.
Turn off or on Windows 11/10 Mail app Email Notifications
Type Mail in the search box and go to the Mail Windows Store App. Go to Settings while keeping the Mail app open.
The Settings here allows you to add a new mail account, add or edit the background picture, adjust the Reading settings, access the trust centre and to leave a feedback.
To customize and set the notification alerts for your email account, you need to click on Options. The dropdown menu in the top will show you your email accounts and you can select the one you want to customize the notifications for. Select the Account and scroll down to get the Notification Settings. However, if you are using Windows 11, you can directly find the Notifications setting after clicking the setting gear icon.
Here you can turn the notifications ON for every mail you receive. Before that, you need to select the email account.
If you want to get the older big banner alert for your emails with a sound alert, check the boxes shown in the Notification settings. The options are: Show notifications in action center – Show a notification banner, Play a sound, and Show notifications for folders pinned to Start.
These settings will let you get an alert every time you get an email message.
Once you check all your email notifications in Windows 10 Notification and Action Centre, you can delete them right away by clicking the X button appearing next to the notification. You can adjust the settings for all your email accounts in the same way.
There is another way to enable or disable email notifications of the Mail app in Windows 11 and Windows 10. For that, you need to use Windows Settings. To get started, press Win+I to open Windows Settings and go to System > Notifications. Click on the Mail app.
Here you can find all the options to manage the notifications. If you want to turn off mail notifications, toggle the Notifications button.
On the other hand, it is possible to customize the notification banner, play or mute notification sound, etc.

After I upgrade to Windows 10, I received all notifications of private messages sent to me on the Facebook app in Action Center. After installing the first cumulative update via Windows Update, it stopped working. Any idea?
Sorry, Windows 10’s mail app doesn’t notify me, even with proper settings. It used to, in the Action Center, but it stopped.
Im having the same problem Email used to notify with a note & sound in the activation center, then just a note. Now not even that. Weird. All settings are on and correct as far as I know! Any ideas?
mine is set as directed but no notifications and nothing in action centre
I have the opposite problem. I originally had the same problem as others have identified, with notifications on for all accounts, but got notified only SOME of the time, so I reverted to the very reliable Checker Plus for Gmai and turned OFF all notifications in Windows Mail, not wanting to receive notifications from BOTH for each email — but now the setting won’t stay OFF! Each time I set it to off and close Windows Mail, when I open it again, the settings have jumped back to ON!
The people at Microsoft are incompetent. It shows in evrything they do. While the competition is inventing improvements – Microsoft are great at inventing problems you did not have before.
