WD My Cloud is a personal storage device that can safely store all of your important information, including pictures, movies, and documents, and then can be accessed over a network. However, some Windows users reported that WD Cloud is not showing on the network. In this post, we will see what you need to do to resolve the issue.
Fix WD My Cloud not showing on network in Windows 11
If WD My Cloud is not showing on the network, execute the solutions mentioned in this post.
- Restart your computer
- Access My Cloud through the IP address
- Make sure that SMB features are installed
- Perform a Network reset
- Enable Network Discovery and File Sharing for Private network
Let’s get started.
1] Restart your computer
If you are unable to access the storage device, reboot your computer. This allows the system to re-establish the connection and, hopefully, resolve the issue.
2] Access My Cloud through the IP address
If you are not able to access WD My Cloud from the File Explorer, try to access the device through the network address. Follow the steps mentioned below to do the same.
- Are you seeing the Cloud Storage icon on the desktop, double-click on it.
- It will open the WD My Cloud in the browser.
- Get the IP address from there.
- Press the Windows + R key to open the Run dialog box.
- Now enter the IP address in the Run dialog box.
\\192.168.xxx.xxx
- We hope you have now accessed MD My Cloud.
If you don’t have Cloud Storage, ask the network admin to send you the IP address.
3] Make sure that SMB features are installed
SMB (Server Message Block) functionalities are essential for file sharing and network communication. SMB makes it easier to share files, printers, and other resources over a network. The access and interaction with your WD My Cloud device, which normally uses the SMB protocol for file sharing and network connection, will not work if SMB functionalities are not installed. So, make sure this feature should be installed.
Follow the steps to install SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support features if not installed:
- Press the Windows + R key to open the Run dialog box.
- Type “optionalfeatures” and press the Enter button.
- When a small window appears on the screen, check the SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support feature.
- Now click OK and follow the on-screen instructions to install them.
Hopefully, your device will be accessible now once you have installed this feature.
4] Reset your network
In case there is some misconfiguration with your network settings, you have to reset it without fail. Since we are unable to connect to WD Cloud, we will reset the network as that can get rid of any misconfiguration that could have caused this conundrum. Follow the prescribed steps to do the same.
- Press the Windows + I key to open the Settings app.
- On the left side of the screen, click on Network & internet option.
- Go to the right side of the screen and click on Advanced network settings.
- Again go to the right side of the window and click on the Network reset option
- Here, click on the Reset now button from the Network reset section.
- Click on the Yes button and restart the computer.
Once your computer restarts your issue will be resolved.
5] Enable Network Discovery and File Sharing for Private network
WD My Cloud will not be available on your local network if Network Discovery and File Sharing for a Private network is off. We need to make the necessary changes to your network settings in order to resolve the issue. Follow the steps mentioned below to do the same.
- Press the Windows key, type Control Panel, and hit the Enter button.
- Click on Network and Sharing Center.
- On the left side of the screen, click on Change Advanced sharing settings.
- Expand the Private networks option, turn on Network Discovery, check the Setup of network connected devices automatically option, and enable File and printer sharing.
Finally, reboot your computer and check if the issue is resolved.
That’s it!
