By default, Windows 11 displays the remaining battery status so that you can know how much time you will be able to use your laptop for. However, if Windows 11 is not showing the remaining battery time on your computer, here is how you can get rid of that issue. This article helps you fix this problem by changing a few Registry values.
By default, Windows 11 displays the remaining battery time or percentage when you hover your mouse over the battery icon in the system tray. However, there could be times when it might not show the details, as mentioned earlier. In such a situation, you need to change a few things. One of them is the Value data of a REG_DWORD value.
As it is responsible for showing or hiding the battery time remaining information, this setting must be set correctly. On the other hand, there are two more REG_DWORD values that need to be set as the factory defaults. Those REG_DWORD values are: EnergyEstimationDisabled and UserBatteryDischargeEstimator.
This particular article shows how you can open the Registry Editor and make the necessary changes in the Windows Registry. As you are going to change things in the Registry files, it is recommended to create a System Restore point first.
Windows 11 not showing remaining battery time
If Windows 11/10 is not showing the remaining battery time, follow these steps:
- Search for regedit in the Taskbar search box.
- Click on the search result.
- Click the Yes button.
- Navigate to Power in HKLM.
- Right-click on Power > New > DWORD (32-bit) Value.
- Name it as EnergyEstimationEnabled.
- Double-click on it to set the Value data as 1.
- Click the OK button.
- Create two more REG_DWORD values.
- Name them as EnergyEstimationDisabled and UserBatteryDischargeEstimator.
- Restart your computer.
Before you begin, you should know that the Battery life feature has been added back to Windows 11 Beta Channels. It is expected to come to the stable version with the next feature update.
First, you need to create a system restore point so that, should things go wrong, you can always restore your PC.
Now open the Registry Editor on your computer. For that, you can search for the regedit in the Taskbar search box and click on the individual search result. Then, click the Yes button in the UAC prompt.
Once the Registry Editor is opened on your PC, navigate to the following path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power
However, if the Power key is not available, right-click on Control > New > Key and name it as Power.
Here, you need to create three REG_DWORD values. For that, right-click on Power > New > DWORD (32-bit) Value and set the name as EnergyEstimationEnabled.
Double-click on it to set the Value data as 1 and click the OK button.
As said earlier, you need to create two more REG_DWORD values. For that, repeat the same steps as above and name them as:
- EnergyEstimationDisabled
- UserBatteryDischargeEstimator
By default, the Value data of these two REG_DWORD values are 0, and you need to keep it that way.
Finally, close all the windows and restart your computer. After that, you can find the battery remaining times while hovering your mouse over the battery icon in the system tray.
