1] Check the Xbox Live Service Status
There is a possibility that there is a problem with the Xbox Live service. Check the Xbox service status on the Xbox Status page. If there is an outage with the Xbox servers, the problem is not from your side. In this case, you have to wait till the issue is resolved. Keep checking the status of the outage on the Xbox Status page.
2] Power cycle your Xbox console
Power Cycling the Xbox console can fix many issues. This action will clear any temporary glitches that might be causing this issue. To power cycle your Xbox console, you can follow these steps:
- Turn off your console by holding the Xbox button on the console for 5-10 seconds.
- Remove the power cord from the wall socket and the Xbox console.
- Wait a few minutes, then connect the power cord and turn on the supply.
- Press the Xbox button again to turn on the Xbox console.
Now, try to rejoin your party and check if it brings any changes.
3] Clear Alternate MAC Address
Sometimes this issue can be fixed by clearing the Alternative MAC address.
- Press the Xbox button.
- Go to “System > Settings > Network > Network Settings”.
- Select Advanced Settings.
- Select Alternate MAC Address.
- Select the Clear button.
- Now, select the Restart button.
After restarting the console, check if the problem persists.
4] Make the Xbox app always run in the background
If you experience this issue on your Windows PC, make the Xbox app run in the background. To do so use the below instructions:
- Go to the Windows Settings.
- Click on Apps > Installed apps.
- Scroll down and look for the Xbox.
- Click on three dots and select Advanced options.
- Look for the “Background app permissions” dropdown and select Always.
Join the party and check if the issue still persists.
5] Check your NAT type
A strict or unavailable NAT type can create problems with party connections. NAT stands for Network Address Translation. It determines whether you can use multiplayer gaming or party chat on Xbox or not. This can be one of the main reasons for the issue you are currently experiencing. Check your NAT type and change it (if required). Use the below steps:
- Open Xbox Guide.
- Go to “Profile & system > Settings > General > Network settings.”
- You will see your NAT type under the Current network status.
If your NAT type is not open, you need to change your NAT type, clear persistent storage, and alternate MAC address. After clearing it, restart your console and then check if the NAT is changed or not. If not, you have to change the port. Check the below instructions:
- Open Xbox Guide.
- Go to “Profile & system > Settings > General > Network settings.”
- Now, go to “Advanced Settings > Alternate port selection.”
- If the port is set to Automatic, change it to Manual.
- Click on the Select port drop-down and select another port.
- Now, check if your NAT is changed to Open or not. If not, select another port and check again.
6] Reset Network Settings
Sometimes, resetting the network settings can help to fix several issues. This will resolve any network-related issue. To do so, use the following steps:
- Open the Windows Settings.
- Click on Network & internet.
- Now, click on Advance network settings.
- Click on Network reset and select Reset now.
Do note that when you perform a network reset, you must wait 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, Windows will restart automatically. Also, your Windows displays show a message related to this, so make sure that you save your work before your computer restarts.
7] Factory reset your Xbox console
