Why are my Xbox game clips not uploading?
There can be several factors responsible for your Xbox game clips not uploading to the Xbox network. It could be an internet connectivity issue or a server problem at the end of Xbox Live causing the problem. Besides that, if you haven’t allowed game captures in your settings, you will face this issue. Another reason for the same is that you are running out of cloud storage to upload more game clips on the Xbox network. Other than that, an outdated system and system corruption can also prevent you from uploading Xbox game clips.
Fix Xbox Game Clips not uploading to Xbox Live
If Xbox game captures are not uploading to Xbox Live, you can use the below fixes to get rid of the issue:
- Initial Checklist.
- Make sure Xbox Live servers are not down.
- Delete some old and unused clips.
- Allow game captures on Xbox.
- Install the latest system updates.
- Factory reset your Xbox console.
- Contact the Xbox support team.
1] Initial Checklist
You can start with some basic troubleshooting methods as it could be a generic issue not letting you upload game captures on Xbox Live. Here are some points you can check to avoid the problem:
- First, make sure your internet connection is working correctly. A weak internet connection will likely prevent you from uploading or sharing your game clips on Xbox Live. So, troubleshoot your network connection or try connecting to a different stable network connection to fix the problem.
- The next thing you can do is perform a simple restart to resolve the issue. For that, press and hold the Xbox button on your controller until the Power Center appears. After that, select the Restart Console > Restart option and check if the issue is resolved.
- If restarting didn’t work, you can also perform a power cycle on your console and see if it helps. Turn off your console, remove its power cords, wait for a minute or so, plug in the console, and switch it on.

2] Make sure Xbox Live servers are not down
If you are still unable to upload clips on Xbox Live, the problem might be caused by the end of Xbox Live servers. In case there are service outages or certain features and functionalities are not available currently, you will face this problem. Hence, you need to ensure that Xbox Live services are up and running at the moment.
To do that, you can visit the Xbox Status page and find out the current status of all Xbox services. If you learn that there is an ongoing server issue or a related Xbox Live service is down, wait for the time until the service is up and running again. And then, try uploading your game clips. However, if there is no server problem, you can use the next fix to resolve the issue.
3] Delete some old and unused clips
As it turns out that if your cloud storage is full, you will experience this issue. You are allowed to upload up to 10 GB of the game clips to the Xbox network. Some affected users reported that deleting some old and unused game clips from their storage helped them fix the issue. Hence, if the scenario is applicable, you can also try doing the same and check if the problem is resolved.
Here are the steps to do that:
- First, press the Xbox button on your controller to bring up the Guide menu.
- Next, move to the Capture & share option.
- Now, select the Recent captures > Show all option.
- After that, in the first drop-down box, choose the On the Xbox network option.
- Then, highlight and select the clips you want to remove and press the A button on your controller.
- Finally, choose the Delete option from the appeared menu and proceed with the onscreen instructions to complete the deletion process.
Once done, you can try uploading new game captures to Xbox Live and check if the problem is fixed.

4] Allow game captures on Xbox
Another thing you need to make sure of is that the game capture is allowed on your Xbox. If not, you will experience this problem. So, if the scenario is applicable, allow game captures and see if the problem is fixed.
To ensure that capturing is turned on your console, follow the below steps:
- First, quickly open the Guide menu by pressing the Xbox button on your controller.
- Now, move to the Profile & system > Settings option.
- Next, go to the Preferences > Capture & share option.
- After that, you will see an Allow game captures option. Under this option, simply enable either the Captures by me or the Captures by me or games option.
- Finally, try uploading game clips and see if the issue is fixed.
5] Install the latest system updates
Such issues can also trigger when your console is not up-to-date. So, to avoid such performance issues on your console, you can install all the pending system updates and keep the console up-to-date.
To update Xbox, here are the steps to follow:
- First, press the Xbox button on your controller and choose the Profile & system > Settings option.
- Next, go to the System section and choose the Updates option.
- From here, check if there are any updates pending. If so, download and install them.
- Once done, your console will reboot.

6] Factory reset your Xbox console
Resetting your Xbox console is effective in resolving various errors and issues. Since corruption in your console will trigger several problems, you can try resetting your Xbox console to its original state. However, choose this as the last resort if none of the above solutions worked.
To reset your Xbox, here’s what to do:
- First, evoke the Guide menu by hitting the Xbox button on your controller.
- Now, move to the Profile & system > Settings option.
- After that, click on the System > Console info section and then choose the Reset console option.
- Next, you can select either Reset and remove everything or Reset and keep my games & apps to proceed.
Note: I will recommend you use the second option to keep your data intact. However, if that doesn’t work, you can go with the first option later. - Lastly, follow as prompted on the screen and restart your console.
You should now be able to share or upload your game clips on Xbox Live.
7] Contact the Xbox support team
If all the above solutions failed to resolve the issue, you can contact the official Xbox support team. They will help you with a troubleshooting guide to get the problem fixed.
Where did all my Xbox captures go?
All your Xbox game captures are stored under the Captures section on your console. To access it, tap on the Xbox button on your controller and go to the Profile & system > Settings > Preferences > Capture & share option.
