Using the Microsoft Store, we can download our favorite Windows Store UWP app, straight to our Windows 11/10 PC. However, it may happen at times, that the download does not complete and you receive the following error message – Your purchase couldn’t be completed.
Fix Microsoft Store Error Code 0x80070422
In this article, we will show you how you can troubleshoot the issue and solve the problem. My thanks to Anand Khanse, MVP, for suggesting several of the following troubleshooting steps.
Your purchase couldn’t be completed, Microsoft Store Error 0x80070422
Many users face the “Your purchase couldn’t be completed” error, while sometimes users may even receive additionally, an error code like 0x80070422. This error is received for free as well as for paid apps. However, these kinds of errors need similar treatment. You do not need to carry out all these suggestions. Just see which one helps you.
- First of all make sure you have set the correct region, time, and date. Change the settings if required.
- Run System File Checker to verify the integrity of your system files. Reboot.
- Next, clear the app cache and see if this helps.
- Moving on, you could run the Windows App Troubleshooter and Windows Update Troubleshooter to see if it helps you. This will fix issues concerning resolution, drivers, Windows Update issues, etc.
Having done these basics, you could move on and see if any of these fixes help you:
1] Switch to local account from Microsoft account or vice versa
Press Windows Key + I on desktop, go to your user account, click Switch to a local account. That’s it. Reboot and your problem should be fixed now.
2] Restart Windows Updates
Press Windows Key + Q, type cmd. Pick Command Prompt from search results.
Right-click on Command Prompt, from bottom options, select Run as administrator.
Now run these command one by one:
net stop wuauserv net start wuauserv
Reboot once, you might not experience the issue again. If you still face the issue then try the next suggestion.
3] Ensure that the Windows Update service is set to start automatically
By default, the Windows Update service is set to start automatically. But if you have changed some settings, you could reset Windows Update setting back to its default via the Control Panel or carry out the following steps:
Press Windows Key + R , type services.msc in the Run dialog box. Click OK.
From the Services window, look for Windows Update service, since you’re facing the issue, it may have Disabled or Manual Startup type.
Double click on the same service to modify its Startup type. Select Automatic from the drop-down list as shown. Click Apply followed by OK.
Now reboot. Hopefully, you’ll no longer encounter the issue.

^^ Firstly, make sure you’re connected to network. You can verify it from network status / properties.
Try running Microsoft Account Troubleshooter for fixing additional issues:

Hope this helps, Good luck :)

^^ Try this command at administrative Windows PowerShell and see if that helps:
powershell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $Env:SystemRootImmersiveControlPanelAppxManifest.xml
Then this:
((Get-ChildItem “HKLM:SOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionAppxAppxAllUserStoreInboxApplications”) | Get-ItemProperty).Path | Add-AppxPackage -Register -DisableDevelopmentMode
I can install apps only if I’m logged in local account. Connected with my Microsoft account I have error 0x8e5e021f – not nice. It’s some kind of Windows 8.1 bug.

It didn’t work for me. I fixed by disabling Kaspersky. As soon as I re-enable Kaspersky, Windows Store will not download apps… So, when I need to install an app, I guess I will have to disable Kaspersky.
Here’s what fixed it for me:
Open command prompt as Admin and run this:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Based on advice I found down the rabbit hole at: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/26f35def-6f55-4c07-9ba8-73e2d402e6cc/sfc-scannow-cannot-repair-member-file
Yes. More on that here https://www.thewindowsclub.com/component-store-corruption-repair-windows-image :)
After trying all the methods to download an app from the Windows Store I uninstalled Kaspersky but during the uninstall process left the licence box ticked. After reinstalling Kaspersky the Windows Store install worked.

I had given up on trying to install interesting-looking Windows Store apps. Well, on a whim, before trying any of the other rather long and detailed suggestions I’ve found on the web, I just disabled Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 2.2.1.1043’s “Malware Protection” and “Malicious Website Protection” from the menu in the “system tray”, and the Windows Store apps were able to install normally.
